Essential Oils 101

You’ve seen our recipes by now, right?

You may have noticed that essential oils aren’t exactly “essential.”

Instead, we say they’re “optional.” This means they won’t break a recipe if you leave them out.

However, they could upgrade a recipe from good to great, depending how you use them.

What are essential oils? They’re highly-concentrated oils pressed or distilled from natural things, like herbs and fruits. They contain a powerful punch of fragrance that can be used in perfumes, candles, and skincare products.

You’ve probably seen them in health food stores near the soap.

What you smell can affect your brain chemistry.

Think about the last time you smelled something really good … or really bad. It can change your whole mood, perk you up, or shut you down.

This is the basis of aromatherapy, and the reason we make our recipes so customizable.

Feeling drowsy but avoiding a caffeine crash? There’s a scent for that.

Can’t get to sleep and don’t want to take medicine that leaves you groggy in the morning? There’s a scent for that.

The nose knows best, and we know oils.

Wake Up!

It’s morning.

You’re rolling out of bed, getting dressed, and feeling hazy.

The coffee pot is so far away. You’re one step away from getting right back in bed!

Goodbye, responsibilities.

We got you covered, but not with a blanket.

Try these essential oils that are proven to rev up the senses and get you ready to grind:

  • Citrus

  • Peppermint

  • Ginger

  • Cinnamon

Brainpower!

Life is full of obstacles and responsibilities that keep you on your toes, and you want to be in the best state of mind to tackle them.

But everyone has those moments.

You blank out, you get a mental block, and everything starts to blur together.

Take a deep breath.

There’s an oil for that:

  • Sage

  • Rosemary

  • Cypress

  • Spearmint

Get Creative!

Creativity isn’t just for the artsy types.

We all have a muse - some big, inspirational focus that fuels our work, goals, and state of mind.

Sometimes, though, the muse takes a break. Poof, gone.

Don’t break your brushes, it’ll come back.

It just needs a little help from these oils:

  • Jasmine

  • Clove

  • Eucalyptus

  • Rose

Be Confident!

It’s the big day.

Hey, maybe it’s the big week.

You have something to say, someone to impress, and you need a big boost of “I can do this.”

We’re proud of you, and you CAN do this!

Still don’t believe us?

Maybe these oils will get you in the boss zone:

  • Citrus

  • Pine

  • Sweet Fennel

  • Geranium

Relax~

We’re getting to the end, and so are you.

You just want to kick your feet up, maybe have a glass of wine (or tea, or ice cream, or all three), and focus on anything but the stress of the day.

Phew.

Get the extra pillows, throw a movie on, and settle in with some of these relaxing fragrances:

  • Bergamot

  • Sandalwood

  • Ylang-ylang

  • Frankincense

Sleep.

A good night’s sleep is one of the easiest ways to treat your body right.

So why is it so hard sometimes?

The bed doesn’t feel right, you can’t get comfy, and your brain wants to have a midnight chat about anything and everything.

Goodnight, sleep tight.

Dreams have never been sweeter with these calming oils:

  • Lavender

  • Vetiver

  • Chamomile

  • Valerian

Final tips:

Oils are magic, and the best part? They can be used in anything.

Try making a relaxing body butter with lavender to massage in right before bed.

Or maybe, put some citrus in your face scrub to wake up your senses in the morning.

Our products make perfect blank slates to infuse oils into for your very own brand of self-care. There’s no added fragrances in any of our products, and many of them have very mild scents that mix well with any kind of essential oil.
